Workshop Venue
The workshop will be held in Room 1202 of the UCSD Computer Science and Engineering Building. Room 1202 is on the ground floor; most people will enter from the courtyard with the large stone bear sculpture. To find the CSE building on google maps, search for “UCSD Computer Science and Engineering”. Search for “Computer Science” to locate the building in the interactive campus map.
Arrival methods include walking from nearby hotels, hotel shuttles, taking the San Diego trolley, taking Uber or Lyft, or driving. Getting to and from campus can be tricky at times, and you may wish to keep Lyft or Uber in mind as a backup method. On the Uber or Lyft app, look for the "Computer Science Engineering Building" on Voigt Drive. On Uber, the right building will probably come up if you enter just "CSE".
Parking for visitors at UCSD can be difficult. You will need to find a “V” space and to pay, even on weekends. For rates and payment methods, see here. There is also a campus map specialized just for parking. Parking Lot P503 is close to the CSE building and has a handful of “V” space but they are good for only three hours. Parking spaces are much more likely to be available at the Gilman Parking Structure and the Hopkins Parking Structure. These are closest parking decks to CSE, both with a fair number of “V” spaces. The Gilman Parking Structure is somewhat preferable due to its location, but might fill up more quickly. It is a 8-10 minute walk to the CSE department from either parking structure.
The San Diego Trolley (Blue Line) now extends to UCSD (and the UTC shopping mall). From the UCSD Central Campus Stop, it is a 6+ minute walk to the CSE department.
The UCSD Campus Shuttle runs in a bidirectional loop around campus. The Warren College Stop is next to the CSE building.
Hotels Near Campus
La Jolla Shores Hotel - This hotel is often used for department visitors. The sometimes have good UCSD rates, are on the water, and have a shuttle van (confirm the shuttle van with the hotel). It is a 10-15 minute drive to campus.
Sheraton La Jolla Hotel - This is within walking distance, but it is 20+ minutes walk.
San Diego Marriott La Jolla - This is very close to a trolley station. You can take the trolley two stops to the central campus station, and then walk 5-10 minutes to the CSE department.
Hyatt Regency La Jolla Hotel at Aventine - A nice hotel fairly close to campus. But I don’t have any experience with it.
Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa - This is a resort style hotel with spa, etc. It is next to campus, but a 15 minutes walk to the CSE building (but is much closer to the faculty club for Saturday’s dinner).
Best Western Premier Hotel Del Mar - This tends to have lower prices, and I hear it is very nice. It is located at the south end of Del Mar, and has had a shuttle to campus in the past (inquire before booking). It is a 15 minute drive to campus.
Residence Inn - This hotel has rooms with kitchenettes. It is within walking distance, but again takes 20+ minutes. The shortest walk lacks a sidewalk at one point.
Many of the hotels offer UCSD discounts, but they are not always lower than the online rates. You need to phone the hotel itself to find out about the UCSD rate. It is also possible that the hotel will not let you access the UCSD discount, and a CSE department staff member would have to make the reservation for you.
If you learn more information about rates or shuttles, etc., please let Sam Buss know so we can update the web page.
